Default Gym Membership as a business expense?

Hi,

I haven't asked my accountant this yet but was wondering if anyone knows..

I run a company and i am the only director. Can my gym membership be a business expense and be used to claim tax back?

Unless you are a professional sports person the GYM membership will be considered a personal expense and can not be claimed as a tax deduction.

Hi Portalou,

Thanks for your answer.. I actually went to my accountant and he said the same thing as you.

However, if you did pay for it via your company I believe it would be classed as a fringe benefit tax..
